Privacy Policy

Our Privacy Philosophy

PromptClips is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe your prompts and data should remain yours, stored locally on your device, without unnecessary data collection or transmission.

This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and most importantly, what we don't collect.

1. System Requirements

PromptClips requires macOS 26.0 or later to function properly.

This requirement ensures compatibility with the latest macOS security features, performance optimizations, and system APIs that PromptClips relies on.

2. Data We Don't Collect

PromptClips is designed to be offline-first. We don't collect:

  • Your prompts or any content you create
  • Personal information or account data
  • Usage patterns or behavioral data
  • Device identifiers or tracking information
  • Location data or other sensitive information

3. Data Storage

All your data is stored locally on your Mac using standard macOS storage mechanisms (requires macOS 26 or later):

  • ~/Library/Application Support/PromptClips/ - Your prompts and settings
  • ~/Library/Preferences/com.promptclips.app.plist - App preferences
  • No data is transmitted to our servers or third parties

4. Optional Telemetry

We may offer optional, anonymized telemetry to help improve the app. If you choose to participate:

  • Data is completely anonymized and aggregated
  • No personal information or prompts are included
  • Only basic usage statistics (e.g., “feature X was used Y times”)
  • You can opt-out at any time in settings
  • Telemetry is disabled by default

5. Third-Party Services

PromptClips uses minimal third-party services:

  • Payment Processing: Polar (for “pay what you value” payments)
  • App Distribution: Standard macOS app distribution
  • Updates: Sparkle framework for automatic updates (no tracking, minimal network activity)

We don't use analytics, advertising, or tracking services. No data is shared with these services beyond what's necessary for their core functionality.

About Sparkle Updates

PromptClips uses the Sparkle framework for automatic updates. You may see network activity when checking for updates, but no personal data or prompts are transmitted. Only basic app version information is sent to determine if updates are available.

6. Data Security

Since your data stays on your device, security is primarily your responsibility:

  • Use macOS FileVault for disk encryption
  • Keep your Mac updated and secure
  • Use strong user account passwords
  • Regular backups via Time Machine or similar

We don't have access to your data, so we can't lose it, leak it, or be hacked for it.

7. Your Rights

You have complete control over your data:

  • Access: All data is stored locally on your device
  • Export: Use the built-in export feature to backup your prompts
  • Delete: Uninstall the app to remove all data
  • Modify: Edit or delete prompts at any time
  • Portability: Export data in standard formats

8. Children's Privacy

PromptClips is not intended for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we don't collect personal information from anyone, this is inherently protected.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy occasionally. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last modified” date. Since we don't collect contact information, we can't notify you directly of changes.

We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your privacy.
