Download the DMG file from our website, open it, and drag PromptClips to your Applications folder. Double-click to launch. The app includes a 30-day free trial—no signup required.

PromptClips requires macOS 26.0 (macOS Tahoe) or later. It runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Click the + button or press ⌘N to create a new prompt. Give it a title, add your prompt content, and optionally add tags for organization. Save with ⌘S.

Press your global shortcut from anywhere on your Mac to open the quick launcher. Search for a prompt, select it, and it's automatically copied to your clipboard.

Currently, keyboard shortcuts are fixed to ensure consistency. We're considering customizable shortcuts in a future update based on user feedback.

Wrap any word in {curly braces} or {{double curly braces}} to create a variable placeholder. When you paste the prompt, PromptClips will highlight the variables for easy replacement.

Every time you save a prompt, PromptClips automatically creates a snapshot. Access version history from the prompt detail view, see visual diffs between versions, and restore any previous version with one click.

PromptDoctor is an optional AI analysis feature powered by Apple Intelligence that runs entirely on your Mac. It provides instant feedback on prompt quality, clarity, and effectiveness—all without sending data to the cloud.

Add tags to any prompt by clicking the tag icon or typing # in the prompt editor. Tags are color-coded automatically. Use tags to organize by project, client, AI model, or workflow. Filter by multiple tags simultaneously.

Yes! Export individual prompts or your entire library from File → Export. Prompts export as plain text or JSON format, making backups and sharing easy.

Yes! Use the search bar to find prompts instantly. Search works across prompt titles, content, and tags with real-time results.

Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and ensure PromptClips has permission. You may need to remove and re-add it. Also check if another app is using the same shortcut.

PromptClips is designed to be 100% local—there's no cloud sync by design. Your prompts stay on your Mac for privacy. Use export/import or Time Machine backups to move prompts between devices.

PromptDoctor requires macOS 26.0+ with Apple Intelligence enabled. Verify Apple Intelligence is set up in System Settings → Apple Intelligence. If using an older Mac, PromptDoctor may not be available.

Try restarting your Mac first. If that doesn't work, download the latest version of PromptClips from our website. Your prompts are stored safely and will remain intact.

After purchasing, you'll receive a license key via email. Open PromptClips → PromptClips Settings → License → Enter License Key, paste your key, and click Activate. You're all set!

After 30 days, PromptClips will prompt you to enter a license key. Your prompts remain safe and accessible even after the trial ends—you just need a license to continue using the app.

Your license includes one year of free updates. PromptClips checks for updates automatically and notifies you when one is available. After your update year, you can keep using your version forever or purchase an annual renewal to get the latest features.

Yes! Your license works on any Mac you own. Simply deactivate on your old Mac (PromptClips Settings → License → Deactivate License) and activate on your new one using the same license key. You can have up to 3 devices active at a time.
